Can the laptop i7 processors self-overclock when possible?
I think it's called Turbo Boost in the desktop processors.

How about, "we want to invest in the US!"
Sheeeez!
There should be a law that states anytime a US company chooses to manufacture something outside the US, the company must post a clearly-articulated-less-than-25-page document stating AND COMPARING why the US is unable to manufacture said product.
Never gonna happen. Pretty much all politicians in the United States are bought and owned by corporate interest groups. And they're not out to help the average guy live a decent life. They're not gonna stop until they've destroyed the labour unions completely so they can bring our wages down even more. The minimum wage is already a joke but don't worry man, the day we're making just as much as a bangladeshi guy they'll be happy. That way they don't have to move factories to the far east, They can just build them right here in the massive suburban poverty stricken areas of the united states. Then We'll be making iPhones at sh.it wages for the rich easterners! Yeehow! America Number 1?!.......... No?
It's a sad world. If every country could just agree on laws that would secure a decent wage for everyone this sh.it wouldn't be going on.

Oh boy, get up early Sunday morning to wait in line with scalpers...
No thanks...
So let me guess, most didn't have any, and if they did, only a few...
You know it's bad when companies use Apple Gadgets as front-page ads for Bait-And-Switch....
S***w it - this is B***S***....
I decided to spend my money on hobbies and just get by with old, outdated Apple stuff...
Sorry, Apple, I'm not "Cool Enough" to be a Current Apple User...

Got a new Nikon dSLR (refurbished) from a photo store instead... :D

It's true. The Mac Pro service manual is now available to technicians, which includes instructions for replacing the CPUs.

...Actually it's the smug attitude of so many Mac owners that makes them such satisfying targets. You reap what you sow. I've been using Macs since 1984 (and PCs about as long) and Mac users get on my nerves sometimes.
Um, hello?
You've been using Macs since their inception, therefore you are a Mac user, who is according to you a smug and satisfying target.
Maybe, not all Mac users are the same monolithic group.

Off topic I know, but that iPod release thread is even better than Slashdot's 2001 coverage of the original iPod.
"$400 for an Mp3 Player!
I'd call it the Cube 2.0 as it wont sell, and be killed off in a short time...and it's not really functional."
And the award of prescience goes to:
"We live in the YEAR 2001... not 6000 years from now when ridiculously awsome technology will exist. No other mp3 player has a harddrive like this... 5gigs... **** yeah. A rio of the same size offers 64megs. Jesum Crow, get over your moping.. .this is revolutionary.... plus it's just the beggining. This device litterally bests anything on the market by about 100x"
and to:
"Apple hit a HOME RUN with this thing, and just as always proved that there's no one that can make products like them. Way to go Apple!"
(To which a hilarious response is:)
"Without a future. This Christmas you will see mp3 players be commoditized. Meaning that the players from Korea will be way less expensive tha iPod."
Too funny. That's why I reserve judgement. :)

Will this recall ever expire?
The reason im asking is that my 3k550 A1079 12" PB battery only has been through 18 battery loadcycles and still has 100% capacity according to cocounut battery...
Im wondering If I should get it replaced right now or wait untill my current battery starts running out of juice? What would you guys do?
edit: My pb warps every once in a while, could a new battery fix the problem?
and risk having the battery catch on fire or actually do something worse? that would be stupid

I somehow doubt its true, but its a nice story.
When Ive returned a product, they have never asked for my name or address, and if I didnt give them my email address, there is no way they could contact me.

I think Apple's strategy has always been to delay implementing new technology until it functions seamlessly.
Apparently, Blu-ray doesn't function seamlessly yet. :rolleyes::D

Madoff wasn't in the government. That had nothing to do with the government (other than showcasing the joke our regulation system has become) so bringing it up doesn't even make sense.
As for the G20, do things like that happen often in Canada?
Also, we need to stop flip flopping between talking about Canada and the USA, or at least do a better job of distinguishing the two when putting numbers out there as it gets confusing.
I only used Madoff as an example as to how 65 Billion could easily just get squandered and disappear. The Government crooks seem not to get caught as easily as him.
As for flip flopping Canada and the US ... I think both countries are similar as to how our Governments waste money.
IMO the answer to our countries sinking financially rests with reckless spending and the answer is not drastically cutting the big services like Military, Education, Healthcare and such.
There is too much Government feeding at the trough on both sides of the border.

The name "iPhone 4G" adds a letter, it doesn't remove one. It allows a 4G phone to be marketed as such, just as they did with the 3G.
I don't care what they call it, just build one that can make calls without blaming the carrier for Apples sloppy work.
Funny how not long ago there was a poll and most who responded voted to keep the tiny 3.5" display. Now that the fanboys god has considered a 4.0" suddenly the push-back went away. So hypocritical, fanboys wait for their god to tell them what's good for them.

The original article, which makes a really great recommendation for Apple to remedy the absurdity of the review-process:
How about trying this: review after release for vetted developers. Once your first app has successfully made it through traditional review, you're marked as legit; subsequent upgrades and new releases go out without prior restraint, except in a few categories where Apple has to work within contract agreements (carrier restrictions on video or tethering, for example, or explicit sexual content). No more bug fixes waiting for weeks, no more wondering whether an innovative idea will ever see the light of day after spending months of effort and lots of money.

I was joking. I don't think we need a society of of Dr. House walking around.

Ah, that explains why I didn't get your joke (the J somewhat limits spontaneity) :P

I agree with you completely, I couldn't imagine anything worse. Interestingly, a lot of people on the AS get IxTx on the myers-briggs, usually INTx
Here's the article in any case, if you ever need to defend yourself against a rabid asspie lol

I recently read an article that outlined the orchestration of product release by Apple. In a nutshell, Apple does't want to release too many products in one setting because 1. each new release potentially overshadows the next 2. media buzz will die down in a couple weeks. Apple wants to keep their name in the news as much as possible so they make major announcements, in drips and drabs. Of course this may or may not apply to this new event, but i would speculate that they would not release a new iPod and a 23" iMac in the same event. Apple depends on maximum buzz with the release of the new iPods and I don't think they would take the shance that a new iMac would overshadow it completely. Thoughts?
