It will be interesting to see changes the parallels will make. competition is nice. unless you are microsoft...

..who won't let you legally (http://download.microsoft.com/documents/useterms/Windows%20Vista_Ultimate_English_9d10381d-6fa8-47c7-83b0-c53f722371fa.pdf) install a "Home" version of Vista in a virtual enviroment, forcing you to pay more for the Ultimate version.

Apple has received a great deal of favorable publicity in the last year as it introduced the iPhone and increased market share in computer sales. Whenever a company gets that kind of publicity, a number of people will buy its stock simply because it was mentioned in the newspapers, without really analyzing whether the stock was actually worth that or not. This halo effect can last as long as six months to a year, but it disappears on the appearance of any bad news, in this case a market downturn.

Apple was grossly overvalued because of all the publicity, so it was the first stock to be dumped when the market turned down. Now it is probably grossly undervalued. Personally, I stay away from volatility. There are too many people who are trading stocks, as opposed to investing in companies. There is a big difference. One is looking for a quick profit on a short-term change in price; the other is looking for long-term accumulation of value.

The short-term traders often do quite well and they brag about their successes, but overall their investments do not do as well as if they had put their money in slot machines in Vegas. That is why I stay away from volatility.

i like the new Preview look :)

Really? I can't stand it. The buttons break Apple's own Human Interface guidelines and make the interface even less inconsistent. One of the first things I did when I got tiger was to install Mail Stamps (http://www.andrewescobar.com/mailstamps/) to restore the old look.

lbro, chrmjenkins, and jav6454 all looked around trying to figure out what planet the magic glowing button sent them to. What they saw looked a bit like a congested downtown, with office buildings and garbage everywhere. When they opened the door to get out, they where overwhelmed by a stench. A stench so great, even jav6454 could feel its burn.

With the computer unable to tell them the planet (silly operating system), they set off for the closest building. Getting nearer, they heard noises that sounded like a person being held captive. "jav6454, give me your leg." chrmjenkins asked. "My what?" "Your leg, just give it to him." lbro said. jav6454 detached his leg and hobbled along after them into the building. When they got inside, they saw a huge open room with a flower pot in the middle of it. "Well, there isn't anything in here. Let's go." jav6454 said, still wanting his leg back so he could kick lbro with it.

Just then there was a squeaking sound from the rafters. They all looked up to see the biggest mouse they had ever seen. chrmjenkins peed himself, lbro fainted, and jav6454 fell over. The mouse jumped down and started to move toward lbor. chrmjenkins, having only just met him, did not want lbro to die by the teeth of a giant mouse.

Then chrmjenkins jumped up, grabbed jav6454's leg and started to viciously beat the giant mouse with it. It only took 14 hits before the mouse was no more. It vanished into a puff of trans-dimensional smoke. Now feeling quite good about his physical abilities, he gave jav6454 his leg back and together they dragged lbro back to the ship. Once inside, chrmjenkins pushed the magic glowing button. For he did not want to go into any more of the office buildings.

When the ship came back into being, they all looked out the window. lbor recognizing the planet shouted "Mammariea! Mammariea! We are finally here! Take the ship down!" Down went the ship though the clouds.

Eldiablojoe was a wolf. This is the start of a 24 hour limited night.

Don't discount microsoft - they have money to lose for years in trying to get #1 for MP3 - slowly they creep up and overturn Apple - apple doesn't ahve the same stamina.

A long term commitment, not a short term thing.

Aside from trying to be funny, I was just pointing out that--for myself--I'd rather read about Mac rumors not MS rumors. I think the whole point of confirming Zune this early is just this, create spin. A consumer, music product that is years away from making any impact is now first page news on Macrumors...again.

I understand its potential. I understand MS's deep pockets. I would just prefer to read about it on MSrumors.com or Zunerumors.com. :D

Quit trying to shuffle responsibility off on someone else for your mental shortcomings. Sure, people make mistakes, that's life. But to suggest that Apple guard you from your own idiocy - seriously? The current crop of gen XYZ'ers are stuck in that entitlement loop of, "I can do no wrong - it's obviously your fault for allowing it to happen to me."

When I was 11 I knew damn well what I was doing. I got my ass smacked when I got caught, too. It taught me not to get caught.

Few years? How about next month or TOMORROW?! :p
Maybe I was a bit conservative;)This time next year. I'm just saying not too fast becuase bad things happen when companies grow too fast. Can't keep up with demand, can't keep up with expansion, can't keep up with worker volume. Grow gradually, and Apple will have time to adjust to all of these.

Trust me, its for the better to just take it slow.

is the difference a big deal for audio/graphics work?

I do not have a practical answer for you, but I had a similar question when I was upgrading the HD in my powerbook - I wanted the fastest drive I could afford as this would give my PB the biggest performance boost. What I found out is that the 160GB 5400 perpendicular drives have about 90-95% the performance throughput of a non-perpendicular 7200 drive. The reason being that because the bit are perpendicular, the drive needs to rotate a shorter amount to read the same amount of data. I know at the microscopic size of the data on the drives this seems hard to believe, but logically, it makes sense to me. My PB is a screamer by comparison to the 4200 drive that was in there, which has not bearing to your question of course...

I suspect, that the 5400 160GB drive from Apple will have decent performance. Personally, I'm not impressed with the 4200 200GB offering, but for someone who needs more space and ultimate performance is not key, then this would be fine.

That all being said, I look forward to finding out the specs & models of the actual drives Apple is putting in the new MBP's before I'd put money down on one.

This is actually an incorrect report that Microsoft has tried to correct, but it keeps getting reported.

I know we jump all over MS for spreading FUD... We shouldn't do the same.
Microsoft's "correction" is discussed further in the "update" on the article you linked:

The bottom line is that Vista Home Basic/Premium are not licensed for use in a VM. Ulitmate and Business editions are OK.

I think he means that the wireless card in the new MBP may be the same as in the new iMac, which is apparently 802.11n draft compliant
But if its not is there anyway you could upgrade to a 802.11n wireless card when it comes out in 2008? Like take it took an apple store and pay 100 or something..

.....About the the mentality of the people who buy a two year old phone just so they can say they have an iPhone.

Not much different than people who get cheap/free (and crappy) Android phones to say they have a phone that's "good enough as the iPhone." And those phones, though they may be recently manufactured, generally run Android 1.6-2.0. Not exactly high quality...

I can only say one thing, after seeing another quarter of spectacular numbers by Apple...Dell's days are numbered. I would shut it down and give the money back to shareholders...
